This article examines the features of the emotional and volitional sphere of younger schoolchildren with mental retardation and its impact on academic success. The main focus is on the importance of socialization and the impact of emotional development on this process. The main trends and typical features of the emotional and volitional sphere of children with mental retardation, emotional reactions and volitional qualities are described. Their often impaired volitional abilities, such as goal setting, planning, and decision making, are described as affecting their ability to independently complete tasks and fulfill responsibilities. Various aspects of the problem are presented, including theoretical approaches to understanding emotional disorders, methods of diagnosis and correction, as well as strategies for integrating these children into society. It is important to study the mechanisms of formation of emotional reactions and volitional processes in children with mental retardation, their characteristics in social interaction, as well as methods of correctional and psychological and pedagogical support. The importance of early and targeted intervention to support the emotional and volitional development of younger schoolchildren with mental retardation, an integrated approach to their learning and development, taking into account individual characteristics and needs, is emphasized. The level of formation of the emotional and volitional sphere of younger schoolchildren with mental retardation and anxiety at school has been revealed. There was also a review of the correctional program «Ömır boiaulary» for the development of the emotional and volitional sphere of children using art technologies.
